My Special Brother, Vito

Hi fabulous friends!

Do you ever have a special brother or sister in your family?

I have 1 sister and 2 brothers in my family. But the special one is Aloysius Anggito Vito. We called him Vito. I say that, because Vito has a special need and different from normal people. Vito was born on 21st of May 2002. When he was born, Doctor identified that Vito has different chromosome with any other normal people. Doctor said, he is a Down Syndrome.

Down Syndrome or trisomy 21, is a genetic condition that typically causes some level of learning disability and certain physical characteristics (from www.nhs.uk)

People with Down Syndrome has a different learning ability than normal one. The impacts are, they quite difficult to understand the instruction and will take any longer for them to accept the information. But, it will be different for each person. It usually caused by an extra chromosome in a baby’s cell. This isn’t inherited in most cases, but in my family case, it’s because of my mother's age during pregnancy. My mother’s age was higher than 40 at that time. Mother who is higher than 40 has 1:100 chance, different from mother who is 20 has 1:1500 chance of having baby with Down Syndrome (from www.nhs.uk)

That’s a brief description about Down Syndrome. Despite all the circumstances, my brother has a special affection for my family. Vito, the one with special needs has a sincere heart and very helpful. Like father like son, my brother has a good sense of humor that make my whole family always laugh out loud.

Believe It or not, my brother is very special because he always brings a fortune for my family since he was born. My family always be happy with his presence. I’d like to Thank God for having Vito in our life. He is more than a brother, but an Angel without wings.

Me and my family always treat Vito like a normal child even though we know that he's a disabled. But, that's what makes him special. Our family believe, every human born for any reason. Obviously, good reason.

Currently, Vito’s activity is attending School at an Extraordinary Catholic School, Sang Timur. He has a passion in art, particularly in drawing, painting, and coloring. That's my deceased Papa's talent also. Like father like son, Vito has my father's legacy in drawing. My deceased papa already passed away for 7 years, he was an architect.

I always try to make Vito and my family happy. We always spend our weekend with family. Happiness is contagious. I feel happy when I look my little family happy.

Vito attended my Graduation ceremony at Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta.

That’s a short description about Vito, my brother. Do you have the same experience of having a special need brother/sister? Please just leave any comments down below. Would like to hear further feedback from you soon!

Happy Sunday!

Love 💖,

Fifi
